PESAH, an annual Holy Week exhibition held at the club’s premises by the Youth Committee and volunteers, opened on Wednesday 5th of April at 7pm. Present during the opening were several members of the Society, together with the club officials, Zabbar’s Archpriest Fr. Evan Caruana, Zabbar’s Mayor Mark Vella Bonnici together with Mark Grech, a member of the local council. The officials also gladly welcomed the presence Hon. Dr. Marlene Farrugia MP and Hon. Joe Mizzi MP and Dr. Errol Cutajar.
Club President Mr Joe Saliba stated that the exhibition, which started on a relatively small scale some years ago, grew into a vast exhibition, which is the result of many hours of sacrifice and dedication from the exhibitors and volunteers who help in this exhibition. Mr Joe Saliba also emphasized that the Executive Committee always gives its full support to the Youth Committee to continue raising the level of this exhibition.
Minister Dr. Marlene Farrugia stated that the Religious tradition in our Maltese Culture is very dear for us Maltese as it characterizes our culture and differentiates it from other foreign cultures. Dr. Marlene Farrugia then congratulated all the Youth members as well as the volunteers for their dedication and work to organise an exhibition of this level.
Minister Joe Mizzi thanked the officials for the invitation whilst also stated that being present year after year he manages to see how this exhibition evolved through the years. Minister Joe Mizzi emphasized that although culture plays a big part during these days, it is also important for one to think spiritually and remember of others less fortunate as well.
Zabbar’s Archpriest Fr. Evan Caruana added on what Minister Joe Mizzi talked about, that although our culture is very rich in religion, many people miss the essential part of this week, the spiritual aspect. Fr Evan Caruana insisted that apart from attending or organising exhibitions and activities, one should also find some time to reflect on how Jesus Christ sacrificed himself for us and how we should take the chance he gave us to do better for others around us.
Fr. Evan Caruana then proceeded with a short prayer and officially opened the exhibition with club president Mr Joe Saliba.
